What Are Features of Lava Liquid Embolic System?

Comprehensive Formulations

Available in various viscosity of Lava-12, Lava-18 and Lava-34, unique low-viscosity formula Lava-12.

Better Dispersion And Penetration

Deeper penetration and dispersion into the nidus&distal microvessels.

Stable Control&Non-Adhesive Material

Controlled delivery and non-stick catheter, it is more safe.

Excellent Visibility

More micronized grain size of Tantalum powder, the precipitation is slower.

Product Code Viscosity Description
LAVA-12 12 cST Lower viscosity and more fluid for distal microvessles.
LAVA-18 18 cST Standared formulation for general use.
LAVA-34 34 cST Higher viscosity for high flow vessels.
1. What is the composition of Lava embolic agent?

Lava liquid embolic is a non-adhesive liquid embolic agent comprised of EVOH (ethylene vinyl alcohol) copolymer dissolved in DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide), and suspended micronized tantalum powder to provide contrast for visualization under fluoroscopy.

2. What are liquid embolic agents for interventional embolization?

A wide variety of embolic agents has been and is currently used for embolization of AVMs. At present, the liquid embolic agents (LEAs) ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) and n-butyl cyanoacrylate are used most frequently.

3. What do embolic agents do?

Embolization is a minimally invasive treatment that blocks one or more blood vessels or abnormal vascular channels. In a catheter embolization procedure, medications or synthetic materials called embolic agents are placed through a catheter into a blood vessel to prevent blood flow to the area.

Directions for Product Use

01/

Shake Liquid Embolic Agent at least 20 minutes on an Liquid Embolic Agent mixer at a setting of 8. Continue mixing until ready to inject per step 6.

Confirm micro catheter placement with injection of contrast agent per institutional procedure

02/

Flush contrast from micro catheter luer fitting with 10 mL of saline. Leave the syringe connected.

Filling catheter dead space: aspirate approximately 0.8 mL of DMSO into an LAVA LES 1mL syringe. Inject the DMSO into the delivery micro catheter in sufficient volume to fill the catheter dead space. Refer to delivery catheter labeling for dead space volume.

03/

When filling the syringe with Liquid Embolic Agent, aspirate approximately 1.1 mL of Liquid Embolic Agent so that the piston head is beyond the 1 mL graduation line on the syringe barrel.

Attach the syringe to micro catheter luer fitting.

04/

Inject Liquid Embolic Agent until the distal end of the piston head is even with the 1 mL graduation line on the syringe barrel.

Any excess Liquid Embolic Agent on the tip of the syringe may be wipe off with a clean, dry particle free cloth.

05/

Remove the DMSO syringe from the catheter, overfill and wash the luer bub with the balance of DMSO.

Immediately connect the LAVA LES syringe firmly to the micro catheter luer fitting, making sure there is no air in the luer fitting during the connection.

06/

Inject Liquid Embolic Agent to displace DMSO. Based on clinical practice, it is recommended that Liquid Embolic Agent be injected at a steady rate of 0.16 mL/minute (0.25 mL/90 second). Do not exceed 0.3 mL/minute

What is Detachable Coils?

Detachable coils are placed into aneurysm lumen through a catheter which is inserted into an artery in the groin.

RenovaTM Detachable Coils are intended to endovascularly obstruct or occlude blood flow in vascular abnormalities of the neurovascular and peripheral vessels. Renova Detachable Coils are indicated for endovascular embolization of:

• Intracranial aneurysms

• Other neurovascular abnormalities such as arteriovenous malformations and arteriovenous fistulae

• Arterial and venous embolizations in the peripheral vasculature

FAQ

8

01. What does an aneurysm detachable coil do?

Small metal coils are inserted into the aneurysm through the arteries that run from the groin to the brain. The coils remain in the aneurysm; they are not removed. They stop blood flowing into the aneurysm and therefore reduce the risk of a bleed or a re-bleed.

02. How do detachable coils work?

These coils have historically ranged in size from 0.010 to 0.018 in in diameter and are meant to be deployed through a microcatheter, which serves to constrain the coil before deployment.

03. What is the difference between a stent and a coil?

Aneurysm coil embolization can be performed in both ruptured and unruptured aneurysms. Stents are small metal tubes that are used for certain kinds of aneurysms. Stents can be placed at the same time as coils in order to make sure the coils are positioned perfectly inside of the aneurysm.
