Large vessel occlusion refers to the occlusion of a major cerebral artery such as the middle cerebral artery or the internal carotid artery. Patients with LVO typically have severe neurologic deficits and poor clinical outcomes. Mechanical thrombectomy using an aspiration catheter is preferred over intravenous thrombolysis as it is more effective in restoring blood flow to the affected area. Moreover, it has been shown to be safe and feasible in both anterior and posterior circulation. The neurovascular aspiration catheter has several advantages over other mechanical thrombectomy devices. Firstly, it allows for quick, complete, and secure clot removal. The Glutton works by creating a suction force via a syringe or an aspiration pump. The catheter is inserted through a femoral artery and navigated to the occlusion site via a guide wire. Once in position, the catheter is advanced through the clot until it reaches the distal end. The operator then creates a vacuum by aspirating blood into the syringe or pump. The clot is then aspirated into the catheter and removed from the vessel. The procedure can be repeated until complete recanalization is achieved.
